What Skillsets Are We Looking For?

All Subjects: We are seeking educators skilled in the Sciences, Maths, Language Arts, French, Social Studies and more.

What Do we Do, How Does This Work?

We provide academic support to learners primarily by meeting with them either online or in-person at their home (or other agreed locale); additionally, Flowing Education backs increasing access to educational support services by vetting locations managed by our partners and Flowing Educators to act as Flowing Learning Centres (FLC). FLCs are locations with facilities to accomodate multiple students and educators to meet in-person, providing spaces outside of concentrated commercial city-centres.

In-Person (At Home): Flowing Education Learners in your area would be paired with you, there would be an agreed schedule for support, and service will be provided at the learner's home. You will travel to the learner's location with any needed tools and equipment, providing services in the designated space, wrap-up and move on to the next scheduled appointment.

Online (Distance): Flowing Education Learners in your area or some other region would be paired with you, there would be an agreed schedule for support, and service will be provided online through our Flowing Education Teams network. Flowing Education integrates your calendar and online communication tools, facilitated through Microsoft 365.

Flowing Learning Centre (FLC): You, or another Flowing Education partner in your area, host an FLC and learners paired with you would meet there at an agreed schedule for support. Services will be provided in-person at the FLC; here, the learners come to you.

Let's explore a tutor conducting three different sessions.

Appointment 1: Sarah - Monday Afternoon (At home):

Tutor's Preparation:The tutor, let's call them Alex, gathers all the necessary materials and resources needed for the session with Sarah, a high school student struggling with calculus. Alex reviews the curriculum and any specific challenges Sarah has mentioned during previous sessions.

Session: Alex arrives at Sarah's home on Monday afternoon as scheduled. They have a dedicated space set up for learning, complete with a whiteboard and relevant textbooks. The session begins with a quick recap of the previous lesson and a discussion of any homework questions. Alex then introduces the new topic for the day, explaining it step by step and providing real-world examples to make it more understandable. Sarah actively participates, asking questions and seeking clarification.

Wrap-up and Feedback: Alex summarizes the key takeaways and assigns practice problems related to the day's topic. They also provide encouragement and positive feedback on Sarah's progress. Sarah feels more confident about calculus and is motivated to work on her assignments.

Appointment 2: Javier - Monday Afternoon (At home):

Tutor's Preparation: Alex, having packed up from the session with Sarah, gathers their materials and heads to Javier's home. Javier is a college student majoring in physics, and he has requested assistance with understanding concepts in fluid dynamics. Alex brought along some advanced physics textbooks and a laptop to access online simulations and resources.

Session: Alex and Javier start the session with a review of the previous week's material. Javier raises questions about theories he finds challenging. They dive deep into the subject, exploring equations and conducting experiments using the online simulations. Alex encourages Javier to think critically and connect theoretical concepts to real-world phenomena. They engage in a lively discussion about the implications of fluid dynamics in modern physics.

Wrap-up and Feedback: After the session, Alex provides Javier with additional reading materials and suggests academic journals to explore. Javier expresses his gratitude for the engaging session and mentions feeling more confident in his understanding.

Appointment 3: Emma - Monday Evening (Online):

Tutor's Preparation: Alex travels home from the meeting with Javier. The next session is online with Emma, a middle school student who requires assistance with improving her writing skills. Alex prepares a snack, and set up the online workspace and tools that will be used, writing guides, grammar resources, and a collection of age-appropriate books.

Session: Alex longs into TEAMS and checks all of the equipment to make certain that there are not any technical issues. Emma shows up in the waiting room and Alex admits Emma into the call. The session with Emma begins with a discussion about her writing goals and areas where she feels she needs the most improvement. Alex reviews Emma's recent essays and offers constructive feedback on structure, grammar, and vocabulary. They work together to brainstorm ideas for an upcoming writing assignment. Alex introduces creative writing exercises to make the learning process more enjoyable.

Wrap-up and Feedback: At the end of the session, Emma shares her excitement about a short story she started writing. Alex provides guidance on character development and plot structure, encouraging Emma to explore her creativity further. Emma's parents jump onto the call, they are pleased with her improved writing skills and express their gratitude to Alex. Alex signs off; finished for the day.
